Ever hear yourself saying….

“I’m definitely not a morning person. It takes me ages to come round.”

“Always best to stay out of my way for the first hour as I can be as grumpy as hell!”

“Morning coffee is my saviour! Couldn’t live without it”

When that alarm goes off do you hit the snooze button and snuggle back down with the duvet up to your ears desperately thinking that another 10 minutes will make all the difference? 🛌

Sound familiar?

Well that was me for sure until I discovered the benefits and the magic of a morning routine. Yes, it takes a bit of work to create a new habit but OMG it’s certainly worth it!

Let me explain…

This is how mine roughly goes most mornings:

  1. Wake up nice and early at the same time every day, 7 am works for me at the moment.
  2. Spend the first few minutes trying to remember any of my dreams from the night before as dreams can be where our unconscious mind tries to solve any issues and problems that we are struggling with. They can help us find some clarity so it’s good to give them a review just in case.
  3. Then I sit up in bed and for the next 5 or 10 minutes I listen to a relevant meditation 🧘🏼whether it be one on productivity if I’ve got a lot to do that day or a calming one if I’m a little anxious over the day’s events. (IMPORTANT…I make sure I don’t start looking at my phone. Not for at least the first hour. Information overload is so important to avoid – put it onto aeroplane mode the night before if you can’t quite trust yourself).
  4. Then I go and make myself a lovely cup of tea or gently convince my hubby he wants to make us both one.
  5. Next either spend a few moments writing in a journal all the things I am grateful for and my important goals that I’m working towards or if time is tight I think about them in my mind and feel the feelings of gratitude and visualise the image of achieving the goals.
  6. It’s now time to get my body moving with some exercise or stretches, (nothing too strenuous! )🕺🏻Whilst listening to some music from my uplifting playlist.

Now I feel supercharged, positive and ready for the day ahead !!

I can genuinely say following this morning routine has dramatically improved my mental state. Now I love mornings and spring out of bed instead of hitting the snooze button.

Give it a go you might find that it’s as liberating for you as it is for me! I didn’t think I would stick to it but I have as I feel so much more relaxed and focused at the start of the days instead of stressed and exhausted before the day has even begun. The extra benefit is that this feeling stays with you all day and I find myself more productive, I have more energy and I’m certainly calmer with the kids!

It’s amazing how one small change can have such a huge impact…..
